Up the Creek without a pedal ride

One of Northwest Georgia's "must do" rides! See the foothills of Northwest Georgia as they were meant to be experienced...by bicycle!

The routes wind through back roads of beautiful rolling hills and pastures to some of the most stunning scenery this area has to offer. Last year, over 600 cyclists from around the Southeast participated, and there were many comments on the beautiful scenery, helpful staff and great support along the way!

This year's ride consists of 28, 40, 60 and 101 mile options, all on scenic rural roads with very little traffic. The 28, 40, and 60 mile routes are mostly flat to gently rolling hills, with just a few challenging climbs; the century route has one short climb. In addition, this years ride will be in a route reversed of past years to give those veterans a change of scenery. Click the below images to see them in full resolution.

All options return to the starting point at the Armuchee High School and are fully sagged.  SAG stops, or break areas, are placed approximately every 15 miles with water/sports drink, fruit, PB&J sandwiches, salty and sweet snacks. Ham radio operators are located at SAG stops for communications in the case of any emergencies. The last sweep of the course is usually tends to end around 5:00 pm.

"It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them.  Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle."
~Ernest Hemingway

"Whether on a road or on a mountain trail, riding a bicycle is a fun and healthy activity, and it's a great way to explore Georgia. On this episode we join a number of bike enthusiasts as they see the state from the unique vantage point of a bike.

First, Georgia Outdoors visits Up the Creek Without a Pedal, an annual bike ride in Rome that offers something for cyclists of all skill levels. We'll also check in with the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign and take a fun ride around the city. We explore a few mountain biking trails as well. All this and more!"
